Week 2A:
Over the years I have seen social applications grow from simple ideas into the go-to platforms for individuals interested in sharing their content. This is also applied to most of the leading social media services that have been slowly building up users to today, following with updates increasingly making the app fresh as the phones and resources become more advanced drawing in more registrations.
When preparing a business on a social media platform, accessibility of service, audience, and influence are the qualities businesses should look for when deciding. When it comes to many different careers adaptable on social media services, the different professions require a certain social media service to approach the appropriate audience. For example, I find local business owners tend to favor Facebook for approaching from a more professional look and compatibility/flexibility with a business setup. You will also find small businesses as small as a single person to major companies promoting on Instagram, for example clothing, music merchandise, technology, advertising, sponsorships, making connections, and more. Businesses on Twitter similarly can advertise sales, events, updates, products through links and small captions accessible to millions of people. Since Instagram and Facebook are known for their personal use, the popularity expands the market for businesses. The social media service was first seen to only serve a personal function. I consider Youtube, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook to be personal platforms. The popularity of these platforms allow each profile to embody the personality of its user, allowing millions of people to share information, products, family, life, struggles, and creations. This spread of information then pushes your business forward as it is easier to send information to others and help grow the business's influence through sponsorship and advertising, either through themselves or content creators providing a service of influence. The platforms Youtube, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook are examples of platforms compatible with both personal use and business. I have more experience with Instagram on the process to setting up a business account. They provide options and services for an untrained individual to setup a professional business account that can be linked to a Facebook account. This allows for your supporters to stay connected on all platforms you are present on with easy navigation. I believe Snapchat is used mainly as a creative means of communication, which its promotion section has now evolved to allow journalistic services comparable to tabloids. This is an example of an unprofessional environment for one to associate their business with. The display for the advertisements is cluttered together with multiple colors and posts with flashy headlines.

Great thorough overview. I hadn't even considered the fact that local businesses favor Facebook over other platforms. As I think about it, it really makes sense. I definitely see Facebook used in a more grass roots sort of way by appearing to be a more word-of-mouth type promotion.
ReplyDeleteI like your recognition of what a business owner should do when using social media as a platform. There are many different audiences to be reached through different apps and websites and knowledge of all of them could be very beneficial.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube can be used for both personal and business accounts. Great blog post!
