Week1A: Welcome to my Blog [Template]

When visiting an informational/social space, you want a space where it catches one’s attention but not blinding or distracting from the content. Although a dark and foggy forest seem uninviting, it allows a space with little distractions without ruining the aesthetic of your social space. Preventing your work from being bland or too confusing to maneuver around. It allows proper organization with most data and information coming from a majority of the center screen. The side-bar isn't cluttered or faded from designs, but allows a clear, clean, and professional setup.

I wanted to show a part of my personality through my choice as I consider the forest at night is a much more calming view than colorful landscapes, colorful borders, and crazy designs meant to grab attention. I want to have a level of professional control over my layout when I start to post and customize my site. If I am not confused by the layout of my site I can make sure it is easy and simple for the visitor to navigate. The number one sign of a poorly managed site is lack of organization in displaying links/sources, directories, and poor visual navigation. In all, I want a relaxing environment with little distractions from the content, while still retaining an aesthetic.

In conclusion, I want to be able to have a clear connection with visitors of the site as it allows little frustration and quick access to the content. The black background allows a clear visual on my text/images and emphasizes the posts rather than the background. It provides a visually professional medium for me to follow up on posts. Also puts the weight of making the content the main focus of the site, motivating me to add my own visuals, to make it more about the product/service through the business, rather than the aesthetic of a theme.

  1. Hi Dominic, obviously you put a lot of thought into the visual layout of your theme and how to connect and provide easy navigation for visitors. Good job! This reminds me of the e-commerce class I took where you're taught how to create your own website. I like the dark blue color of the forest....blue is such a relaxing color. The picture definitely shows your personality and you've inspired me to play around with the layout of my theme. I'm looking forward to seeing what else you post on here.

  2. Awesome choice. This was my runner up, when I was looking through backgrounds. I liked the simple colors and it wasn't distracting. I will also have to work on my theme as my picture disappears once the reader moves to a post. I like how yours is at the top as an accent.

  3. Hi Dominick:

You have really designed a readable site. I didn’t realize how much the type would pop against the black background. Having the photo behind the black box is a great way to show your design without having it over power your posts. I may consider changing my layout after seeing this. I look forward to seeing your organization on your blog posts as we get further into the semester. I agree that navigation is key to a good website.

  4. Great choice on the background. Nailed it with wanting it to be relaxing and calm environment; immediate feel soon as clicked on your blog link. This is my second comment on a second blog with a picture, I need to update mine for sure. Great job Dominic.
