Week 5: P.1

Armstrong Garden Centers’ site gives the aesthetic of a more local but professional business. With its history venturing back to 1889, the white background, olive green text, and professionally done pictures displayed proves this. Armstrong advertises for new employees with a list of benefits and a layout of their system through external links and a YouTube video. Their main market is with the garden hobbyist, small gardening businesses, and home landscaping.

RanchoVistaNursery is also a local/professional growing business, with 40 years of experience. RanchoVistaNursery specializes in high quality consumer and retailer stock Cacti or Succulents. Their site is decorated with a background of antique wood and a foreground of white with the resemblance of paper. In addition, their images are well done and placed evenly and aligned comfortably with the text and aligned consistently. The aesthetic resembles a scrapbook, giving a rustic/modern look. They also use a multitude of different fonts in different categories of the page, which is well organized to prevent confusion. The whole site is very compact, as it contains only 2 directory links, their Homepage and a description of their stores in the Farmstand directory.

Differences I noticed between both the business' sites is how each presented their social media. Armstrong’s directory to its social media is located at the bottom of the page but in small icons and slightly opaque text. While RanchoVistaNursery labels its social media in the Farmstand page with bright, clean icons. Another difference is the calls of action, while Armstrong makes use of this in their shop section with one time, package, or service deals with items purchased online; RanchoVistaNursery has no online shop on their site, restricting the efficiency and convenience of your business to the consumer. They won’t have an idea of what your product is like or looks like on their site, making it equivalent to a promotion rather than an online service/shop.
